Life, Laughter & Limbic Leadership!

Life, like Leadership, is simple – we all want to be happy. As leaders, when we make the decision to motivate our people with happiness, amazing things happen.

Sounds simple, and it is, when we enroll the resources of our limbic brain. The limbic is our middle brain, the part that’s often referred to as our unconscious, yet when we understand the full dimensions of how it works, we realize its anything but unconscious!

Why survive - when you can thrive!        Right now, as you’re reading this page, your limbic brain is managing millions of different functions; regulating your heart rate, blinking your eyes, filtering your blood, digesting your last meal, etc. Most of this we take for granted, and miss out on a huge untapped potential.

A Brief Limbic Lesson                             The limbic is like a 5 year old, it takes everything we say literally. If I say, 'think of a red fire truck', your limbic brain brings you an image of a fire truck. How about a polka dotted fire truck? See how fast your limbic is?

If I say, 'don't think of a blue fire truck', you still see it. Why? Because the limbic brain is unable to comprehend 'not'.

Here's another example. Don't think about hiring me. Don't think about the amazing breakthroughs my programs generate for you. And whatever you do, don't think about the increased productivity and revenue you gain as a result!

See how powerful our words are?

This is one of the distinctions I teach. I integrate them with a mix of right- and left-brain activities to ensure they become an integral part of your life. I teach how to become 'mindful', even masterful, about your thoughts, words and actions, the most powerful tools we as leaders have.

Habitual Limbic                                                                                                                                                                Your limbic turns any activity into a habit by the second repetition. Behaviorists say over 90% of what we think each day are the same thoughts we thought the day before. Left to itself, the limbic turns our life into an endless repetition, maintaining a re-active response to life. Following is an example of the liabilities of habitual behavior...

Monkeys & Bananas                                                                                                                                                 Researches put 4 monkeys in a room. They hang bananas in the middle of the room over a ladder. Anytime one of the monkeys starts climbing the ladder to get the bananas, the researches spray the other 3 monkeys with cold water. Brrrr! They learn quick, and before long, anytime a monkey starts up the ladder, the other 3 stop him. And the bananas just hang there.

They take one of the monkeys out and rotate in a new monkey. He looks around, sees the bananas, and starts up the ladder. Wham - the other 3 jump him. He doesn't understand, tries again, gets jumped again.

He waits 'til he thinks the other's aren't looking, and tries to sneak up the ladder (those bananas look good!) and they jump him again!

He learns to leave the fruit alone. Researchers rotate in another monkey, the same thing happens; he goes for bananas, they stop him. After a few tries, he stops.

They keep rotating in new monkeys (they have turnover too!) and before long, none of the original monkeys are there.

None of the monkeys go for the bananas, they ignore them. And if a monkey did go for them, (which any monkey in his right mind would do), the others stop him.

Guess what? The researchers have stopped spraying water awhile ago! No one would get sprayed if they climbed up the ladder. The monkeys who are in the room don't even know why they don't go up the ladder, they're none of the original group! They just maintain the habits they learned from those who came before them.

What's this got to do with us?   All of us; individuals, families, companies, have patterns we're unaware of. These patterns limit us in ways we cannot imagine. And these patterns will continue in perpetuity, even generationally, until you become conscious of them and make the deliberate choice to change them.

In my programs, I give your company/tribe/team the tools and training to see your world with new eyes, resulting in a totally new look at your business. As a result, you find breakthrough approaches to business and industry problems. Read my client's results, and ask yourself if this is the kind of results you want for your company.

Life's an Adventure, and we give your company the Adventure of a lifetime!
